Fascinating news from Tokyo – apparently – that apparently indicates the team at OpenAI are experimenting with a SDR ("Sales Development Representative") Agent capability.

I found it via a post on Reddit. The poster, MassiveWasabi, took the above screenshot from tge Associated Press live stream featuring Sam Altman and some other OpenAI team members speaking in Tokyo on 3rd of February.

I watched the livestream, helpfully linked by MassiveWasabi and saw the SDR demo.

Now, to be clear, at no point during the demo did I hear the individual say "and this is now an OpenAI service offering."

Instead, the comments were all along the lines of "this is the sort of thing you can do with OpenAI."

The demo on screen looked like something hacked together as ... well ... a demo.

Here is the generic "Contact our Sales team" demo screen:

The team member filled in the form... We then saw the lead screen (that's causing all the excitement):

I would suggest that it looks as though this is just a straight-forward demo. If I was putting this in front of Softbank and the world's media, I'd have cleaned it up a bit.

Will we soon find an SDR agent product offering on the OpenAI services page?

Well, never say never.

But let's be clear: You can build this today with OpenAI – or any other model provider. You can probably have it operating in 10 minutes with a bit of Lovable hacking.

For argument's sake, let's work on the basis that this is just a demo. Everyone who's busy trying to sell SDR agent services can breathe a sigh of relief... for the moment.

But if it's not a demo? If it's a possible hint for the future?

If the OpenAI team need to justify another $100 billion fund raise, will we see another division spun up to sell SDR agent capabilities?

$50 per month per 'employee'?

Interesting times!
