Services like HiJiffy are fast becoming business-critical for any hotel or resort.

It's table stakes now, in my view. I should be able to contact you through my favourite messaging app – e.g. WhatsApp – at any time during the guest phase.

Almost every hotel I've visited in the Gulf region has a WhatsApp number.

I use it for everything. Sometimes I use it to book a massage. Or query how busy the restaurant is for that evening. Sometimes I'll ask them to send me the wine list. Or the menu. Occasionally I'll ask them to send me something (i.e. room service).

My experience is that almost all of these systems are managed by a human first. That's ok. But actually, I'd like an immediate response from a bot. And I'd like the option to be able to serve myself directly via the bot. I'd then like to be immediately sent over to a human if my query is too customised or if the query warrants it.

I really like the idea of being able to query generic information like opening times by FAQ. I also would be quite content to book via chat.

I booked my hair appointments in Muscat, Oman by WhatsApp for 3 years whilst I lived there. (The Man Cave, Al Mouj... ask for Mohammed Lebanese, tell him I sent you, he's excellent.)

So I am already sold.

But now I am expecting this by default at every hotel at for almost every experience surrounding it.
