Georgia Southern University's Chatbot: 35,000 conversations and counting

I didn't manage to make the DRUID AI Symbiosis III events in the UK or NY recently so I missed Scot Taylor's awesome presentation in person. But thankfully it's available online.

I sat and watched it earlier.

Scott is the AVP of Student Experience at Georgia Southern University and he's been charged with leading the institution's "GUS bot" Conversational AI strategy.

He describes GUS as the 'conductor' – and by that he means it is helping students get things done by connecting to multiple systems automatically.

GUS can, for example, authenticate students so it knows who it's talking to. It can connect to the University's ERP system and query it. It can do the same with the Student Information System. In one recent test, it successfully advised a student athlete with their academic query. Scott also illustrated how GUS was able to interact and advise a student parent asking for information about dropping their daughter off for their first day.

So far, GUS has handled 35,000+ conversations with prospective students, current students and University employees.

Not only is this a really exciting use of Conversational AI – to help connect the various stakeholders across the University's ecosystem – it's a brilliant illustration of what the institution has been able to build using DRUID AI's technology. I'm pretty confident that every University will have its own GUS equivalent shortly.

If you've got a cup of coffee to hand, have a watch of Scott's presentation below:

I have to compliment the team at DRUID AI for consistently publishing really good case studies like this online (and summaries like this one on LinkedIn). I think they're one of the best on the planet at highlighting usable, illustrative and helpful case studies from their clients. Nice work team DRUID AI.

Now then, if you'd like to find out more about what Scott and his team are building at Georgia Southern University, you can find him on LinkedIn here:
