It's time for another indicative job listing. I do find it fascinating to see who is hiring for what right now.

Barclays is hiring for a Generative AI Project Manager. It's instructive that they feel the need to hire a Generative AI-experienced PM, as opposed to finding an existing PM on the team (I would imagine they've got quite a bench to choose from) and then rapidly training them internally.

Here are the key demands for the role:

- Investment Banking business stakeholders with a proven understanding of Investment Banking Industry
- Understanding of guardrails and governance required to implement GEN AI in a tier one bank
- Specific GEN AI product knowledge: Copilot, Copilot Studio, Open AI & Bedrock
- Programme Management within Finance technology change arena

Is it me, or is that a bit... easy, in terms of demands?

Investment banking experience ... fair enough.

But the rest?

An 'understanding of guardrails' and governance in a tier-1 bank? As if this is any different from a tier-2 bank. It isn't. They're all regulated and they all need to abide by very specific sets of expectations from the regulator. The Tier 1 has more people and more teams to satisfy, though. Essentially this boils down to recognising that anything with 'Generative AI', anywhere in the description, represents a huge fundamental risk to the bank, simply because of the risks related to hallucination at the moment.

As for 'specific Gen AI product knowledge'... hmm. Isn't this almost every standard PM who's been keeping themselves abreast of the latest technology trends? What PM doesn't have a personal ChatGPT account? What PM hasn't already played around with Copilot? Bedrock (from AWS) might require a bit of research for some - maybe they can get ChatGPT to summarise the key features!

Toward the bottom of the role, there's a mention of "Vice President Expectations" so I have made the assumption that this is a VP level hire. I'm not sure.

Here's a screenshot of parts of the listing for posterity's sake:
